Jol fires a warning
TOTTENHAM boss Martin Jol has warned of the danger of burn-out among the Premiership's stars.
His team face Reading at White Hart Lane today - the first of three games in six days. They play away in Seville in the first leg of a UEFA Cup quarter-final on Thursday night followed by an early- afternoon trip to Chelsea on Saturday.
"Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday is OK, you can play three games in a week," said Jol. "Sunday- Thursday-Saturday ... that is impossible. And that is not only a problem for us but other clubs - like Manchester United."
Sir Alex Ferguson will indeed be less than impressed that his main rivals for the title will face a team at the end of a punishing schedule.
Jol added: "We are playing on Thursday for commercial reasons. I would have liked to have played it on Wednesday."
That will mean yet more demands on the likes of Aaron Lennon (left) and Paul Robinson, who were away for 10 days with England for the Euro 2008 qualifiers.
