Holloway fumes at early red

PLYMOUTH boss Ian Holloway blew his top at ref Jon Moss after seeing defender Mathias Doumbe sent off after 40 seconds.

Doumbe saw red after being harshly judged to have brought down Ipswich striker Jon Walters. The ref initially waved play on after Walters tumbled to the ground as he and Doumbe challenged shoulder to shoulder outside Plymouth's penalty area. But Moss reversed his decision and dismissed the centre back after consulting with his linesman - leaving Ipswich to cruise to victory and Holloway to vent his fury at the officials at the final whistle.

Holloway blasted: "I'm so angry I could chew this microphone off the stand and I've been thrown out by the referee. It was a futile exercise going to see him. I've never seen a decision like that in my life. "There was a clear indication from him that he didn't think it was a freekick, then he consulted his linesman and sent Mat off for leaning on a player's shoulder." First-half goals from Owen Garvan and Alan Lee and a late third from sub Danny Haynes sealed the points for Ipswich, but Town boss Jim Magilton had every sympathy for his opposite number.

Magilton said: "To be honest I was flabbergasted. I thought it was a foul but it was a harsh decision. We scored two very good goals in the first half but I thought they were the better side after the interval." Advertisement Garvan opened the scoring when he curled a leftfoot shot into the far corner and Lee doubled the lead from close range. Sylvan Ebanks-Blake was unlucky not to reduce the arrears when the ref ruled out his strike for handball and Plymouth's misery was complete when Haynes added a late third.
